Dashinkali Temple

Dakshinkali Temple is hidden in the forest on the road to Pharping 20 kilometers South of Kathmandu. It is a favorite Hindu pilgrimage destination.

Dakshinkali is a temple dedicated to the Shiva's consort goddess Kali in her most bloodthirsty incarnation. Pilgrims bring animals offerings to Kali and once the sacrifices are made, they cook around the temple and spend the rest of the day feasting in the shade.

The sacrifices are religious events of strong spiritual significance for the pilgrims.

The image of Kali is often misunderstood. Kali is she  who removes the ego and liberates the soul from the cycle of birth and death.
